Sambil Curaçao marked its 10th anniversary with an emotional celebration yesterday evening at its Exhibition Hall, bringing together community leaders, founding tenants, partners, and guests to commemorate a decade of growth and community service.
The ceremony, which began at 7:00 PM, featured heartfelt speeches reflecting on Sambil’s evolution from a dream to Curaçao’s premier shopping and entertainment destination. Master of Ceremony Rigwenda opened the event with the message: “Together, we build the Curaçao of the future.”
General Manager Luis Moreno emphasized the human element behind Sambil’s success, stating: “This is not just a building; it’s a living place built with soul.” Founder Jonathan Cohen expressed gratitude to the Curaçao community, affirming: “This anniversary is a promise that we will keep building together.”
The cultural highlight of the evening was a live instrumental performance by “La Trayectoria,” featuring six pieces celebrating Curaçao’s identity and culture. The group presented both traditional Curaçaoan music and festive pieces symbolizing unity and joy.
During the recognition ceremony, Sambil honored founding tenants, strategic partners, service teams, and legacy contributors who have supported the mall throughout its decade of operation. Special recognition was given to businesses that have remained with Sambil for the full 10 years.
Ms. Fanny Cohen, daughter of Salomón Cohen, founder of Constructora Sambil, shared special words: “Masha danki Kòrsou, pa hopi aña mas…” (Thank you very much Curaçao, for many more years).
The celebration culminated with a traditional birthday cake cutting led by General Director Jonathan Cohen, followed by a champagne toast where guests raised their glasses “To Curaçao’s One & Only destination—SAMBIL!”
The evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the sky above the shopping center, symbolizing Sambil’s commitment to creating magical moments for the community.
Throughout its 10-year history, Sambil has welcomed over 22 million visitors, housed more than 140 businesses, and hosted over 500 community events, establishing itself as an integral part of island life.
